Arena for a Nation
November 20, 2012
An Arena would be an exceptional opportunity for the children of the Fort Albany First Nation to develop social skills through sports. An arena can be utilized by the community for hockey, basketball, badminton, indoor soccer, floor hockey and other sports. With the development of a scheduled activity program through a sport committee, children will be more active and avoid type 2 diabetes, drug use and gang related incidents. Children will have a place to gather, make friendships, develop social skills and feel important being part of a team in a positive atmosphere. Other benefits of the arena can be that the First Nation can utilize this space for Elders to gather and teach young children the First nation ways, conduct ceremonies and have assemblies of the community for important gatherings.
