The 5 Dollar Project has simply one goal, a smile.
In this day and age people don't take enough time to be kind and take a moment to make someone feel heard and important. We want that to change.
The core of the 5 Dollar Project is our random 5 dollar gift card give a ways. We stop someone randomly, give them a 5 dollar gift card (to somewhere where 5 dollars is still worth something, cafe, fast food etc...). We learn their name, maybe something about them and if they let us we get a picture to post on our website. In return all we ask is that they smile. If they want to pay it forward, great! If they send us pictures or stories about paying it forward, amazing! If not, it's ok, as long as they leave smiling.
We also expanded to making people smile on a larger scale with our cookie and candy "bombing". We go to a business or busy area and just hand out candy or cookies with our website attached to them.
We have also paired with the UN's World Food Programme to allow people to donate 5 dollars through our website to buy a family in Sri Lanka a stove so they don't need to travel through minefields to get wood to cook meals. As well as pairing with a local organization (Food Love KW) to give 50 homeless teenagers a Christmas celebration in conjunction with a youth shelter. This will include music, food, speakers and gifts for each teenager.
Hundreds of people have already benefited from our smile spreading but we need help. We are solely funded out of pocket and by donations. We're trying to start a revolution... we ARE starting a revolution of kindness.
