Raise Awareness In Students/Seniors & Enhance the game of curling Yes, among the young and the old, the game goes on forever!

Once you embrace this sport, you never hang up or retire your broom till very late in life. This is a family game that is shared from generation to generation. We are very fortunate to say that we have members at the Manotick Curling Center as young as 85 and as old as seven.

Our curling center has been part of the Manotick community since 1965. In order to survive and provide many more curling games to our youth, seniors and anything in between, we must provide some much needed TLC to the infrastructure. Our 48 years old building during the curling season welcomes a membership of 300+.  We also host many bonspiels which many curlers from all over the world come and play this friendly game. Our curling center also invites surrounding schools to bring their students to play this wonderful game. We have a senior residence that is being built a few blocks from our facility. We hope to be able to offer curling lessons to the seniors and get them to actively participate in a senior league.  When the facility is not busy hosting great curling games, then it is used by various organisations in the community such as the Manotick Art Society, the Manotick Horticultural Society, Soccer Clubs,  and Political parties to hold community meetings to name a few.

Last April, Team RAISE was created to spearhead the fundraising for our project. Part of the project is to:

·        replace the roof and insulate,
·        change the septic system,
·        replace the siding and insulate,
·        replace flooring throughout the building,
·        renovate the kitchen and bar.

In doing this renovations, we will be able to start the curling season sooner and end later. It will permit us to hold more bonspiels. Also, our building will be more rentable off season.  Since Team RAISE has been created, we have had bottle drives, chili cook off, garage sale and we will be hosting a junk your funk (electronic recycling) to raise money.

We are looking at enhancing the curling center and possibly making it handicapped accessible on the rink as well as the lounge. Our renovation project will ensure that the building remains part of the community and that many young curlers will have the opportunity to play the game for many years to come.  It is a good way to keep active at no matter what age you are. We are working very hard to raise money to keep the facility alive in our community. Your help by voting for our cause will make the difference.
