Created October 30, 2012 by St. Anthony School
LocationDrayton Valley, Alberta
Funding Level$50k - $100k (< 2014)
Community SizeMore than 1,000
OverviewSt. Anthony School, which has a population of 300 students, is in need of a new playground as the current playground is many years old, is well used and no longer meets safety regulations. We would like to build a playground that not only accommodates the school, but also accommodates the community of Drayton Valley, which has a population of 7000. Therefore it has been decided that the school build a barrier-free playground. A barrier-free playground will accommodate children of all abilities and disabilities, both physical and mental. It will be the first of its kind in Drayton Valley. St. Anthony School wants to make sure that all children are included in play in their daily lives and this playground will allow for that.
This playground will allow for more families to come out and enjoy some playtime together. There are many children in the community of Drayton Valley that do not have a playground that they can access. This playground will have a ramp that will allow for wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, etc. to access it. There will be sensory-style stations for children with mental disorders such as Autism.
A playground like this will cost more than a standard playground, as there are more specific pieces of equipment and structures involved. St. Anthony School is a not-for-profit organization and so we are looking to the community, grants and funds available to go towards this project. The Aviva Fund will help cover a major piece of the cost to build the playground.
For all children of all abilities, please vote for our project!
