OverviewTo raise up single moms and their children in our communities by offering support, encouragement, guidance, direction and opportunities for empowerment.
By offering a Weekly Support Meeting for the moms that include a mentor program, open discussion, meditation and guest speakers that offer guidance and direction such as lawyers, financial advisors, life coaches, career counselors, health professionals, inspirational speakers, etc.
By offering a Weekly Children's Program, at the same time, so the moms can bring their children. The children's program will include a focus on 8 core values (I am healthy, I am respecful to myself and others, I make good choices, I am honest, I stand up for what is right, I am caring, I am responsible, I am a team player), as well as a focus on enrichment (art, music, drama), a fitness componenent, a focus on citizenship and community, a Leader-In-Training program and mentors/guest speakers from the community.
We would like to be able to expand and offer these weekly support meetings/children's programs in 4-5 cities commutable from Burlington, such as Oakville, Hamilton, Brantford and Milton. 1 in 6 families in Halton are single parent households, 93% are run by the single moms. In general, this is a hig-risk, high-needs population who are often left to fend for themselves. Mental health and financial issues are their biggest challenges. In the U.S., 1 in 3 families are single parent households. This is a growing demographic, that is hurting and in-need. Single moms and their children need more support, affordable and accessible solutions.
