Glastonbury Community League (GCL) is a volunteer organization representing 15,600+ residents (and growing) in the west Edmonton communities of Granville, The Grange, Parkland and The Hamptons.

Since our inception in 2005, GCL has introduced a number of programs including indoor and outdoor community soccer, bicycle safety classes, community swimming, summer Green Shack activities, Neighbourhood Watch and various special events like our very successful annual Fall Family Fun Day attended by approximately 1000 residents.

Our biggest success to date however, is the construction of a community playground in Glastonbury Park in 2011. It took 6 years of community fundraising, a dedicated park committee and generous sponsors to make it happen. It is truly a fabulous playground with amenities for kids of all ages. There is one thing missing though: a gazebo to provide much needed shade for park patrons. We've planted trees, but right now there is no place for children and their parents to take shelter from the sun's rays. It will cost approximately $30,000 to build a steel-framed gazebo and GCL is hoping to construct it in 2013.

The other initiative that GCL is hoping to achieve in 2013 is the construction and installation of two permanent community league signs at the main entrances into our neighbourhood. These signs would be used to keep our residents informed of programs, events and other community-related information. Currently, we have to rent signage, which is not only expensive and not as timely as we need, but we have a limited number of signs we are allowed to post in a year. Permanent community league signs would allow GCL to communicate more effectively with our residents, keeping them informed and united. The approximate cost of these signs is $10,000 each.

In summary, Glastonbury Community League is striving to make our community the best place possible for people to live. We want so much to make our neighbourhoods fun, friendly and safe. Up to $50,000 from the Aviva Community Fund would go a long way to helping us achieve our goals of a park gazebo and permanent community signage.

Please support our idea and help us make a difference in our community! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
