No Call Unanswered

**It could be your mother, your sister, your colleague, your boss, your neighbour, your friend ...**
Violence against women is perhaps more pervasive than we would like to think. One out of two women in Canada has experienced physical or sexual abuse during their lifetime. One in six women is abused while being pregnant. More than 360,000 children across the country are exposed to domestic violence every year. Hard to believe? The sad truth is that domestic violence is often a hidden tragedy.
For more than 25 years, the Assaulted Women’s Helpline has served as a free, anonymous and confidential 24-hour telephone and TTY crisis telephone line to all women in the province of Ontario who have experienced any form of abuse. We provide crisis counselling, safety planning, emotional support, information and referrals to 49,000 women a year accessible 7 days a week.
Our idea is entitled "No Call Unanswered." We know that because our funding does not allow us to run at full-capacity and meet the true demands of our callers, as many as 50% of the women that call our line during peak periods cannot get through to speak to a counselor. That means thousands of women hear a busy signal when they need to hear the voice of a crisis line counselor. With additional funding of our life-saving service, it can be available to more women and ensure that no call is missed.
Almost two out of three people in Canada say they know at least one woman who has been a target of sexual or physical violence. Maybe you do too.
With your support, we can ensure that no call goes unanswered and every women has someone to turn to when she needs it most.
