Trail to the Pond
Created September 29, 2011 by The Darling Home for Kids
Set in the hilly escarpment north of Milton, The Darling Home for Kids provides paediatric hospice care and respite services to families within communities in Ontario who have children with life-limiting or life-threatening illnesses requiring complex care and/or technology-dependent care.
In a home-like environment and with a highly qualified nursing and support staff, we are able to meet the needs of medically complex children and provide enriching experiences that help children transform and meet their full potential.
With a 77 acre property, and goals of creating unique and memorial experiences for the children and families we serve, our goal is to utilize the land to its fullest by creating a wheelchair accessible trail to the large pond on the north east corner of our property.
This trail will allow all of the children, and their families, who benefit from The Darling Home for Kids the opportunity to explore the great outdoors, regardless of their ability. With a wheelchair accessible walkway, interactive sensory stations along the way, and a gazebo at the pond's edge, the completion of this project will provide our children and families a peaceful and calming experience, and allow the exploration of the sights and sounds of nature in an inclusive way.
