Thank you to everyone who voted for No One Left Behind in the previous round. The final round begins December 2nd and your continued support voting daily will be appreciated by all the children who will benefit from the funding.
In 2007 the Scouts Canada Foundation introduced the No One Left Behind Program as part of its Centennial Celebrations. As a result of survey's of local Scout Councils and research using information from Statistics Canada it was recognized that each year more children were coming forth asking to join Scouting but were unable to do so because they lacked the financial ability to cover the membership fee and other costs of participation.
No One Left Behind is new, and the funds raised in the Centennial Year, 2007, are slowly being used. New fundraising is underway, but already the demand is expected to exceed the available funds. The children helped by NOLB come from all parts of Canada and typically from families that are experience financial setbacks due to job loss during the recession or single parent and low income situations.
The average NOLB grant to date is $75, and so far nearly 2,000 youth have been assisted. In Scouting tradition no child receives a 100% grant. All members are expected to participate in group fundraising to DO THEIR BEST to raise some of the cost of their involvement on their own. Most children then ask their parents or grandparents to top-up any shortfall but increasingly some parents are unable to do so and this is when NOLB can help. With the support of their group, their council and NOLB these children are given a Scouting experience.
Scouting provides boys and girls with life-long experiences and helps them develop values of character, leadership and teamwork. Many successful business and community leaders have taken part in Scouting. Some examples include Astronaut Steve MacLean, and News Anchors Peter Mansbridge and Kevin Newman.
The AVIVA Community Challenge would help the Scouts Canada Foundation to help even more youth. Based on current application levels it is expected that 3,000 + youth may request support today and in time up to 10,000 youth may need NOLB support. Many children who require support the first year of their involvement are able to become self-sufficient in following years.
The purpose of the Scouts Canada Foundation’s No One Left Behind Fund is to ensure that any child, who wishes to belong, can participate in Scouts Canada's programs. Specific programs supported by the fund include but are not limited to: financial assistance to youth for membership and participation, program development, leader recruitment and training, and to assist with the overall expansion of Scouting across Canada.
When a child requires NOLB support his or her names is held in strictest confidence at the local section or group level. Applications only require simply state the number of youth requiring support, and whether they need a membership grant or a participation grant. In this way the embarrassment some feel when asking for help is diminished.

A perfect idea! As a child I was in a single parent family. Money was tight and it was a challenge to keep me in Scouting. Through helping with leadership, participating in findraising, and generous sponsors I was able to stay in the movement and eventually earning my Chief Scout's Award. I am proud to say that I am still in Scouts and have just started my 28th year in the movement! This initiative will help a lot of families in need!

Being from a small, non prosperous town where everyone knows everyone - word spreads quickly about Scouting and all of hte fun that we have. Beavers are very vulnerable and sensitive to the words of others. When somone says that they have a lot of fun doing something like Scouting and that Beaver goes home to mom and/or dad who says we can't afford it - it hurts. With an idea like no one left behind - that Beaver can join in the fun too and feel like a part of the community. What a great idea and big God Bless you to the person who came up with it.

doing big camps far away is always exciting and costly, so when a youth leaves the program you always think are these costly camps a factor. knowing that we have a program like this allows us to approach families find out if $ is a factor and let them know there are options available. Well done John. This is an incredible opportunity, literally thousnds of youth could benefit from this. Scouting brings values to the lives of young people everywhere and can have a huge impact on communities - your community! So please cast your vote for this initiative and then share this with everyone you know.

As a scout leader, I have had youth in my sections that needed financial assistance. Some were able to be helped and join the movement, but too many were turned away because our section just didn't have the resources available. Anything that reduces the chance of a deserving youth being turned away has my vote.

I work with Scout Groups from 100 Mile House BC to Whitehorse in the Yukon. NOLB has helped youth join Scouting in several communities where the local economy is staggering from mill shut downs. Our Group Action Plans include an action item to inform the community that any youth can join no matter what their financial situation.

I live and work with youth in an area where many people are losing their jobs due to the closers and cut backs from the Big Three. Many of our youth in this area rely on this funding to help pay their registration costs, camp fees, etc. Without this and other funding these youth would find it difficult to join our scouting program so we are very greatful for the help!!!

Years ago when my kids first joined Scouting there were a few youth who needed financial help. They got it. They stayed. Today those youth are leaders and giving back to the community. Isn't that what we are striving for? Today with the high unemployment and parents struggling to make ends meet, Scouting will be there for more than ever. Already, we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of parents requesting help to keep their youth in the program. Funds from AVIVA would go a long way to ensure that youth continue to have this opportunity. Most groups can help several youth, then the demand goes to Council then to the NOLB program. We all know there is never enough. Spread the word and lets keep the kids busy, outdoors and off the streets all over Canada.

As a child I had wanted to join Scouts but was told I couldn't. I didn't understand why and was very disappointed. It was only years later that I realized that it wasn't that they didn't want me join, but my parents were newcomers to Canada and my dad was self employed and getting his business off the ground - they just couldn't afford it. What a thrill it would have been to have had the opportunity to join Scouts with something like the NOLB grants. Good luck in obtaining the support of AVIVA so that Scouts Canada may continue to offer positive life skills to all youth that are interested.

For ten years scouting was an important part of my childhood in both the United States and Canada. It was not only fun but I made friends forty five years ago with guys who are still my friends to this very day. Life long friends and fun are two very important reasons why every boy and girl should be given an opportunity to experience the great outdoors the Scouts Canada way! Please support this Aviva Fund opportunity by voting every day!

Scouting around the world is doing very well in both public profile, and relevance in most of the 154 member countries in WOSM. May the NOLB program in Scouts Canada give Canadian Scouting a much higher public profile throughout Canada. The program will show the parents, and youth of Canada that we are relevant to them now, that we are fully inclusive, and we are welcoming to all youth, regardless of circumstance. B-P said we must "Look wide, and then look wider still." Let us follow B-P's advice, and bring in many new members, and in new Groups, where necessary. Those members will be our leaders for the future in Canada. To me, this program is a winner.

As a Cub my Akela Betty Crossly excited me about Scouting. Scouter Don Balch taught me to "Be Prepared". My parents made financial sacrifices to assure my enthusiasm for Scouting was met. Scouting led me into a very successful profession. I have had the privilege of serving Scouting at the Area, Regional, Provincial, National and World Bureau. The No One Left Behind program assures all our young people have the chance to enjoy all the benefits of Scouting without the problem of putting a strain on their family budget. As the volunteer manager of Camp Sylvan, I try to keep our cost to attend vey low. Appreciating this low fee, some cannot afford. No One Left Behind means they can still be excited with the camp program, learn and have fun with their friends.

I think it is fabulous to support the kids, and you deserve Kudos for doing so. In our group, the group committee has voted to cover the registration and program costs of hardship cases within our group. I was not even aware that such a program as this existed. I get the summer camp opportunities etc, but am wondering if other groups do not cover the registrations costs as we do? It seems to me that for such a wonderful program, there are so many costs and there is property maintenance and aging infrastructure to upgrade, funds are needed there as well. In the futrue, if groups covered the costs like we do, could that free up money for those facilities?

Some of our leaders were planning to help a few kids out knowing their parents' were not quite able to pay for a their cub books...I think a plan like this would be fabulous. Inclusion is what it's all about, and nothing makes a child feel more excluded than not being able to show up with their uniform & book.

The World needs more Scouts in action! Companies and organizations talk about what they are going to do for the environment. Scouting is "Sustainability!" The World Wide Scouting Movement has been "doing" and spreading the message of environmental stewardship and sustainability practices for over a 100 years. While some companies are busy looking for successor management, the Worldwide Scouting Movement has been busy creating those future Leaders! Scouting programs all over the World build upon the same solid Leadership foundations in today's youth that they have already instilled in Company Presidents and World Leaders of the past and present. The International Corporate Community needs to realize that instead of spending their time, money, and human resources in trying to come up with new programs to "try to help the environment," they should be putting that same energy and resources into backing a time tested and proven organization that already has the skills, programming, hu

For the past 40 years I have had the privilege of being a part of the worlwide brotherhood of Scouting. Indeed every member of my family at one time was a member of scouting. My three sons are now in Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. As a scouter I see many youth who are unable to afford the fee for the various Programs. Our Group benefits from this program - many of our youth come from single parent homes. Others are victims of the recession and neither parent currrently has full time employment. These kids need Scouting even more, and with NOLB our group is able to offer just that. Without NOLB we could not afford to fund these kids because we are a small community and our partner is also feeling the pinch of recession. I hope we are able to attract enough support to secure additional funding so that we can help even more youth across Canada.

Another wonderful idea from the Scouting movement! As have many posters here, myself and my family have all been involved in this terrific organization, reaping the benefits as children, adolescents, young adults and parents. I was a Cub and Scout along with my two brothers. My father was a leader. My mother helped with craft activities. My sister was a member of the Baden-Powells' other movement as Brownie, Girl Guide and more. Remembering fond memories of outdoor activites and fascinating learning experiences as a youth led myself and my wife to volunteer as adults. ( I learned to make my bed properly to earn a badge as a Cub, visited a nuclear power plant, really saw the stars for the first time at camp, canoed whitewater, built kites, rockets, boats, shelters, helped other youth, adults, seniors and much more). Our three sons have all since benefited immensely from similar experiences. NOLB is the right idea and the right approach at the right time. Kudos!!

Our Group in Burlington is helping out over 10 kids and we turn away noone. The big problem is that Families are embaressed to ask for the help, and Scouts Canada asks too many questions so we use money that could be covering cost to make a great program. As a Trustee of a private trust that was established to provide financial assistance to Youth whose families and communities face financial challenges to pay for membership and participation costs, I and the other Trustees faced an incredible increase in requests for assistance this year (Fall 2009) - so much so that we had to cut back on grants because we ran out of available funds to disburse. We have been taught to help others that can not help themselves. We Must Support this, as our movement depends on all Youth being able to get into the program, and participate in the program. NO IS TO BE LEFT BEHIND, for any reason. I have paid for youth to participate in the Scouting Program, that would never of been in the program without the help. Parents Must be made aware of this great program, We ask the Leaders to develop a Great and challenging program, and due to financial restraints several youth get left out of the program, THIS is Not what BP Wanted from our Great Program and Brotherhood. I think this program is a very good idea, considering it's true that many people are faced with financial problems which limits their ability to do very many extracurricular activities. With this program more people, especially youth, are able to do things they couldn't possibly even think of doing before. This is definitely in the spirit of scouting.

Here in Calgary, along with the affluence, is numerous opportunities to tap into the NOLB program. Without this program, how many youngsters would be left out of the greatest youth organization in the world. Every single member of Scouts Canada should be rallying to this most worth while cause. Aviva, Thank You for creating this opportunity to suppor the youth of our great country - some of your staff must be or have been in a Scouting program at one point in their lives. An excellent scheme - and one that we fully support. Our own group, fortunately, has not had to ask for outside help, and quietly does this with our youth. We have also encouraged youth and parents to work to raise funds for our own use, and to send off in other areas as needed. A couple of years ago, when an opportunity arose, it was one of our Beavers who proposed some sort of a fund-raiser for work in Sierra Leone - and the notion took off. If the youth support it, wonders can and do happen.

The Scouting program has a lot to offer our youth and it is very sad to see some miss out on this opportunity due to financial reasons. What ever funding can be made available through this program would be greatly appreciated by all. Application for this funding needs to be kept simple and easily tracked down by the leaders. I hope that this $75.00 goes directly towards supporting the youth with the program and uniform requirements and that Scouts Canada will waive the yearly registration fee for these youth.

Thank you all for the wonderful comments, and your continued DAILY voting for NOLB. In the write up about NOLB the figure of $75 is mentioned. Note this is an average. Some children need less and we have provide grants of less than $75 or even as low as $25 is that is all that is needed. And in some instance we are able to share the amount needed with the section or group or council. But we have also provided as much as $400 per child if that is what they need to attend summer camp and round out their full Scouting year. So keep voting (and remember if you are able, you can make a personal donation to NOLB any time just visit www.scouts.ca and click on the Foundation pages to find a donations form).

We opened up a group in a low income housing project where drugs and alcohol run rampant and we have the opportunity because of NOLB to show these kids there is a better way through what scouting can teach them. It is only because of NOLB that any of the parents will allow their kids to join none of them could ever pay the full fee and we would not exist. NOLB has my vote for sure.

I think this is a great idea for the youth that are not fortunate to be able to attend such a great club. With this funding more youth can be part of the adventure and experience the gratification of earning a badge for hard work/ team work. Glad to see we are making a move forward for youth of tomorrow!

I was a boy scout in the late 1960's and the program made a huge impact in my life. Over the years I have been a leader for Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers. I have seen the positive impact scouting has had on the young people that I have served. It is wonderful to know that so many of those young people that I know that participated in the scout programs are leading successful lives and giving back to the community.

A great idea to help youth participate in Scoutings' very valuable programs. Especially with the economy the way it is at the moment this is more important than ever. In the past couple of years reliance on this sort of assistance program has increased dramatically.

I know sports are important to a child (sometimes more important to the parent) and I do not discount that . But Scouting provides young kids the opportunity to learn more than just interactive skills and a place to play games. Scouting is a seed that is planted in a child that grows their wonder about the world around them, the strenght to set up self esteem, and the on going desire to help others, themself and the world. Scouting is knowledge that they can use for the rest of their life. Every child that joins Scouting should have the opportunity to experience the whole gammet of what is offered. At Beavers, we teach the kids "Sharing, sharing, sharing". At Cubs we teach "Do your best". At Scouts we teach "Be prepared". Scouting is all about helping others, even if they are in our own Scouting family. Get out there and "Be Prepared to help others. Do Your Best in Sharing, sharing, sharing" with your fellow 'man' - or in this case, child.

Absolutely! Scouting is a fabulous program for youth and adults alike. We need more youth and more adult volunteers and if we could get more youth I believe the adults would follow. There is nothing like being closely involved with something that your child enjoys and benefits from.

I feel very fortunate to be part of this program. I am glad to give back and to receive from Scouts Canada, when financial things changed in my family and I started to think that my little cub wasn't able to continue with the group as it was not my priority but to eat, and the Scouts leaders came to tell me everything for my child was covered and that we can continue this learning experience with the Scouts... That was fantastic!!!! That's why it's great to support this kind of initiatives. Thanks John for the idea and let's continue DOB DOB DOB!!!

WELL SAID AKA "RUSTY"! Scouting Experiences not only help youth when they are young but also carry forward into their adult lives, improving their relationships, their work lives, their family lives, and the values by which they live. No one should have to miss out on a program that provides youth with an opportunity to try new things, provide service to others, build self-confidence, and reinforce ethical standards. Help Scouts Canada "CREATE A BETTER WORLD" THANK YOU VOTERS!

Todays youth face so many opportunities to stray to drugs, gangs etc. Scouting provides a pride in self, a commitment to helping others, and an awareness of the world and its environment. So many inner city youth know only pigeons and seagulls as the bird world and have never had the joy of a chickadee sitting on their hand to pick a seed! NOLB ensures that all youth can have the opportunity to learn that there is more than poverty, crime and pollution to life.

Our children were sponsored by their group for one year that we were having financial difficulties. It is the one program they have enjoyed and look forward to every year since the age of 5. Our son is now a Venturer and our daughter a Scout. Both have been Jr Leaders with the Cub section or are. We could not live without Scouting and we certainly support any financial support that can include other families with children in need!! As a child, I grew up within the Guiding movement tagging along with my brother and parents as they were involved in Scouts. I was always jealous of the "fun" and "challenging" activities they got to do and always wished I could be a Scout. Since then, the Scouting Movement has become co-ed and I have had four children. I now am a Scout Leader and have two of my children involved in Scouts (the other two are too small), and my husband has joined again as well. Scouting is a valuable resource in not only training our youth to grow up to be caring and mature adults, but is a movement that allows the families to participate as well. If it weren't for Scouting, many of our Scouting families would not spend as much time together with the computer and TV technologies available today. Scouting plays an important role in developing our youth and keeping them active. Programs such as NOLB allow us to help all youth to be the best they can be and to enjoy this terrific program. This progam would help Scouts Canada to remember our roots as Baden-Powell started this program when he saw so many youth aimlessly hanging out on the streets of London. As a single mother the guidence my son received was priceless in a father absent home. When I was a single mom of 2, I was not aware that there were methods to have my kids in the programme. Not only that but I was also not aware girls could join as well. My parents had me enrolled in Girl Guides beginning is Shelburne. I was very quiet and reserved and did not talk to anyone--or at least often. Throughout the many moves--I was still involved. The result: because i was with like-minded people who could or would accept me for who I really am, the many leaders who believed and supported me (as well as my parents), because I worked hard --it gave me a sense of accomplishment(All Round and Canada Cords)---BECAUSE OF MY PAST --Doing your best , means something, being prepared will carry you through life--WOULDN'T IT BE A SHAME IF A CHILD WANTED TO BUT COULDN'T BECAUSE THEIR PARENTS OR GUARDIANS COULD NOT AFFORD IT? Scouting has had a lasting effect on many of our greatest citizens, you never know what greatness can come from a child - even a child with limited means. Give those children a chance to explore and grow and become the best they can be with encouragement and life skills they cannot get anywhere else. What other program out there builds self-confidence, teaches ethics, social responsibility, care for the planet and the people on it and having fun doing it.

No one left Behind is crucial to so many youth. It is great when the group committees can cover the cost but that is not always the case, especially in groups that are small. Scouting helps create a better world one youth at a time. People who spearhead many charitable organizations will be the first to tell you, they learned it in Scouting. We owe it to ourselves and our youth to provide them the opportunity to learn to inspire others to make their contribution to creating a better world.

This is a great program. With 3 sons, money was a little tight and this support helped keep my children involved in many wonderful programs. I have helped as a leader in Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts. No One Left Behind is not intended to cover 100% of a child’s Scouting experience. All members must take part in fundraising, and learn about the old Scout Law “a Scout is thrifty” but some children need a boost to top-up their fundraising efforts. No One Left Behind was designed to help pay a portion of the membership fee, uniform, book or subsidize a weekend outing or a trip to summer camp. Our No One Left Behind program is meeting a very important need by ensuring that any child who wishes to participate in Scouting will not be left behind due to financial hardship. Please make a gift to No One Left Behind today. Ways to Give The 1st Ormstown Quebec Cub Pack , a rural environment scouting group is active in outdoor activities and includes several children who benefited from "No One Left Behind" Rural area are spread out and have low density population , where fundraising makes it a bigger challenge.

Scouting promotes activities that encourage youth to: * express and respond to their own spiritual values and beliefs while showing concern for others, * develop self reliance, * pursue hobbies and personal interests, * develop self discipline and the skills of working cooperatively with others, * cooperate in setting and achieving small group and personal goals, * practice leadership skills, * relate with adults, * be of service to others, * camp, explore the outdoors, and develop good conservation practices. We need to make sure that financial barriers do not exist. Vote every day.

Scouting - a fantastic program for all youth and adults. Good morals, good programming, good friendships and great leaning that will last a lifetime. The youth who benefit from NOLB are often the scouts who get the most out of the scouting program. Scouting has provided my children with a broad range of positive experiences (far beyond just camping) which I as a single parent would never be able to accomplish on my own. We, as well, have a large amount of youth that benefit from largely from the scouting program. Whether it be beavers, cubs, scouts, venturers or rovers, without NOLB many of our youth would not be able to be members. A superb funding that is enjoyed by the youth through programming, outings, camps and friendships.

It's incredible the amoun of support that this has received, but what I find even more impressive is the possibility of how many MORE votes we can get! We all have friends, inside and outside of Scouting. With hundreds of thousands of "past members" who already know the value of this cause, I think that in this case, it really is just a matter of asking our colleagues, friends, and family for support. Forward this cause to your friends, and let's keep the votes coming!

TO THE JUDGES: Scouting is truly a program that is available to so many Canadians, and it is through programs such as the No One Left Behind fund, that makes it accessible to youth with limited means. If more children were in Scouting, there would be less problems in our neighborhoods and cities. Many youth learn to think bit and think beyond themselves, how to make huge contributions both as children and when they become adults. Craig Kielburger and his brother Mark, are just one example of Scouts that thought outside the box and started something bigger than themselves, and often their ideas start in a community hall or a church basement while working on a badge! Contributions to the NOLB fund will not only benefit the child, it will continue to reap benefits to our community, our country and our world. Scouts Canada also promotes environmental responsibility in their programs - they are the original 'green organization' and have been teaching no trace camping for decades n

Scouting has made me the person I am today. I truly believe that no one should be left out because of financial reasons. Although every group, area, and council does their best to help sometimes it isn't enough. Having a well funded and visible finacial assistance program would allow many people to benefit from the multitude of great Scouting programs across the country.

Voting begins again in 9 hours, please vote daily and please invite Scouting friends, parents of members, relatives and co-workers, your Facebook friends, your Twitter followers, and anyone else for whom you have an email address, to vote for No One Left Behind. Most children are fortunate enough to come from a family that can afford the cost of membership and participation in Scouting. BUT some children come from families who do their best, but often due to circumstances such as job loss, low income or other challenges, are unable to come up with the funds needed to enroll. These are the children NOLB was setup to help. Perhaps through your vote, a child participates in Scouting who needs the positive reinforcement and values of character and leadership that helps them to improve their lives when they become adults. Scouting, as a child, was one of--if not the most important factors in my developing any sense of self worth. Until then I had none. Now, as a leader, with 15 years experience I get great joy in seeing youth develop, grow, learn and develop their own self-worth and leadership skills. The "No One Left Behind" program is an integral part of Scouting and helping those children and families who need the help most. We have used it every year for youth in our program and right now I have never seen the need greater. Winning this significant award would be absolutely incredible.

Many parents carpool and help get their children to the meetings or activities, parents are encouraged to assist in many ways. Sometimes the parents also benefit from their child's involvement and improve their own leadership and lifeskills. For long distance activities, groups often arrange travel through various means. By being a volunteer-based organization, the volunteer responsibility encourgaes growth and accomplishment for the adult volunteer as well.

In these economic times, the NOLB fund is even more important. As group commissioner of the 27th Cambridge Fiddlesticks Scout Group, I have seen a 200% increase in requests for financial assistance. As an Area Commissioner for a number of groups in Calgary it is not surprising to have groups asking about funding for youth and/or leaders in need. For the past two years it seems like that has increased significantly. Is it worth it? I think so. Several weeks ago a young man approached a group of Scout leaders having a meeting in a coffee shop. He ASKED if he could become a leader. He had been a Venturer in the past and was wanting to give back to the organization and was really looking forward to the interaction with the youth. He won’t require funding, but I know for sure that some of the youth he will be working with will. This to me is a great demonstration of “Duty to Others”. This is just part of what Scouting is about and it seems the statement “once a Scout, always a Scout” has some truth to it.

Most other ideas are creating physical legacies - buildings, playgrounds, musical instruments, etc. that will exist for years and years to come. I like this idea a lot but it's an example of just throwing dollars at an issue. If this idea wins, what happens when the money runs out? You remember the old adage about giving a man a fish and he eats for a day but teaching him how to fish means he'll eat for a lifetime...how is this idea different from just giving the man a fish?
December 5, 2009 @ 1:20 PM EST

Beaverhills: This funding will go a long way towards boosting a program that teaches youth to "fish" ... for over 100 years, Scouting has provided youth with life skills that they, in turn, have used in their communities, their families, their careers ... Equipment eventually gets replaced, but the legacy that Scouting provides can go on indefinitely! Look at some of the other comments - many youth grow up and become Scouters themselves because they know first-hand how valuable the program is. Let's keep this living legacy moving forward ...

I am Group Commissioner as well as the main leader for our Beaver group. Year by year, I am so proud that we can include children, both boys and girls, who are unable to participate in any other activity in town because their families do not have the funds. The beauty of the Scouting program is that it includes everyone. We have Mexican immigrant families who have discovered that this is an activity for their chidlren in the community. We have children with various learning challenges who shine in our programs. Truly, no one is left behind. We have benefited locally by receiving funds from the national No One Left Behind fund so that we can continue to welcome everyone. There is nothing quite like seeing the smile of success on a Scout who has just come back from his/her first winter camp-out, a Cub who has earned their badge, or a Beaver who has discovered that a compass always points north. hello beaverhills.....the Scouts Canada Foundation intends to fundraise aggressively and regularly to ensure NOLB will continue. The AVIVA funds would help as a catalyst for more fundraising. What we have learned from this initiative and from the comments made on this site, is that some kids need help, some will only need it once others more often, but individuals involved and formerly involved in Scouting will suppor this with their personal donation. The AVIVA competition is the start of something that will become a key factor in helping those children who need it most, to becom part of this great Movement.

Any program that seeks to involve youth and build better global citizenship through volunteering, fundraising, mentoring, education, experience and the activities it supports through scouting which promote healthy and active lifestyles will not only enhance future generations but the world in which we live. The NOLB initiative ensures that every child who desires the opportunity to participate is afforded the chance to do so regardless of race, religion, mental or physical impedement. Scouting has a long history of positive impact on individual and also on the greater community it involves. A periodic injection of financial resources though programs & grants of this nature should not replace the obligation of NOLB to develop a viable plan for sustainability through Alumni, corporate partners and personal sponsorship to ensure the success of such a program for the long term. I embrace and support this - cast my vote in favor! Let's build a better world, one kid at a time.
December 6, 2009 @ 2:22 PM EST

beaverhills..."No One Left Behind" will not build a monument but it will teach a person to fish, and to lead, and to volunteer, and to contribute to creating a better world. As you have noted, sometimes people need a helping hand to be able to cast that net. "No One Left Behind" is that helping hand to ensure that everyone who wishes to participate in the great Game of Scouting is not left out because of financial limitations. We already removed other barriers to participation as noted by other comments. Financial need is one of the last great barriers. The AVIVA funding can help Scouts Canada ensure that every person who wishes to participate can. If you have participated in Scouting you know what it can do for every person. If you haven't, join us and learn how we are developing the citizens of tomorrow who will "know how to fish" and also "how to teach others to fish."

Last year we recruited some kids from the playground near where we meet - they were out there every night, til after 9 pm, even when it was 30 below - with nowhere to go - we can always find a few $ for a kid in need, and some of our leaders will pay fees for one or two every year - and there are some good folks who can be relied on to help out - but last year we had more than a dozen kids in need - no fees, no camping equipment, no mitts or boots, sometimes no supper - it was a real stretch to make it happen, but many of those kids are continuing this year, too. NOLB can make this happen!

Today my son went to school with his Beaver's uniform on. He is very proud of the organization that he belongs to. I am very proud of him. Voting for "Scouting's No One Left Behind" will definately help our youth across Canada. Scouting is a worthy cause by teaching a person skills to lead, to volunteer, and to socially interact with others in a positive way. Good Luck!

I have been a beaver leader for 6 years now. I have seen first hand the impact that Scouting has on the youth. Scared little boys and girls turn into confident and proud children eager to learn what the great outdoors has to offer. I have had several children who were sponsored by our Group who otherwise could not particiapte without help. Quite often, these were special needs children who flourished in the non-competitive nature of the scouting program. While our Group is fortunate to have the funds to cover these fees ourselves, most others do not. This is an excellent idea that will go far in helping many other children.

Hello & here is vote but please read this carefully. I send this to all in the Top 15 this weekend. I am a supporter of Gabriola BC Clinic since Day 1 but I am NOT asking for your support. I have a different suggestion that I hope will appeal to EVERYONE voting daily: SEND A VOTE also at Yannick (2610). He is wallowing with under 5000 votes but only need US$10,000. We have a saying where I work in Africa: "When elephants compete it is the grass that suffers." Yannick's project deserves to have 25,000 votes more than any of us frankly ... he is disadvantaged and just needs transportation; many do not access the web site as it is mainly in French. I dare you to go read the "idea" and not be moved by it. Let's keep voting for ourselves as always, but also let's try to put Yannick on Top to point out that, ultimately, this whole contest is about the individual - every one of us. Let's make this our communal cause in these last days. Thanks for your time. BOOST YANNICK DAILY! (2610)

My son was able to join Scouts Canada 15 years ago due to the financial support for registration for his first 2 years. The Scouting movement in Canada has played a direct role in the man my son has become. I have also been a member of Scouts Canada for 15 years and daily witness the youth developing into the leaders and caretakers of our Country. Supporting No One Left Behind is also supporting the future of Canada.

Scouting was a big part of my life while growing up in Saskatchewan. As an adult in rural BC, Scouting has provided countless opportunities to me, my children and my extended family. My sons are better persons and better citizens for having participated in all five Scouting sections. As a Leader, I was provided with many opportunities to make a difference in a young person's life.... and they made a difference in mine.

I've seen youth turned away over my last 12 years as a Scout Leader. We say that all youth have a chance at a Scouting program but the reality is that in the past, we have not had enough resourses to pay for all of the disadvantaged youth that need to be in Scouting. This is especially true for single parent families whose children are the most vulnerable. One disadvantaged youth added to a Scouting program may save not only the youth in the future but money and resources otherwise wasted in law enforcement and addiction costs in society.

I voted today and will again each day I can! I've posted to facebook to help spread the word! This year, we were okay. Next year, we may need assistance. I've supported many activites & services in my community and Scouts will always be one! My daughter has learned alot and her confidence has been raised a little. I believe in time, it will raise even more as she earns badges. These badges are reminders of what she's accomplished & I use them as reminders for her. What she learns to earn them help add values and information for her to apply in her life, in a fun atmosphere. I see too many kids who want to be a part of something and cannot due to parents having a lack of finances. Together WE can do something!

Scouting has been fabulous for my three teens. They have friends who share memories of working together through rain and snow, delivering Star Santa boxes, planning and running events, and just having fun in the outdoors. This is a great idea - If we could get more scouting activities available to more kids we could release potential that otherwise doesn't get tapped. Thinks KirstenA for that suggestion. A good deed a day pays in many ways. I just gave you an additional vote from Gabriola. Yannick has become really important to Gabriolans over the past week and we see him as someone that everyone in the country can and should support. A voie a day would put him high up without threatening anyone (certainly not those in the "Top 15"). Yannick is 9 years old, disabled, and needs some appropriate transport to get around ... he hasn't the mobility most kids take for granted so can't play or interact as others might. His transport is in the "small" $ category but he needs to be catapulted up into the Top 25 to qualify. Your heading says "No-one left behind". That's great! Don't leave Yannick behind. I bet you could help him get to 10,000 today and over the top tomorrow.... are you up to the Challenge???

I am a single parent with two boys in Scouts. Scouts has been one the few constants for my boys. Everything in Scouts is about helping to mould responsible, caring and self-sufficient adults - all through sharing and caring (about people and the environment). Last year a leader pulled out along with their own children over concerns about the behaviour of my child. I will never forget the shock and upset I felt in hearing this. More importantly though, I will never forget what the Akela said to me, "Scouts does not give up on anyone and we will not mourn a leader who does not believe that". I am thankful every day for Scouts!

I was into Scouting as a kid for 9 years. My own son is a mere brown-tail Beaver, and he loves it. Scouting is a program that has something for every kid, and the idea of making available to any kid who wants to participate is fantastic. Scouting has been an integral and important part of our family for many years. Our three sons have been involved in Scouts Canada since Beaver age, with the oldest going into year 11 with the Venturers. They have had the most wonderful and challenging experiences, with many caring mentors over the years. To me, the best part about Scouting is that the adventures keep growing. It is not just a program for the very young. Last summer our oldest, along with my husband, went on the Adventrek journey in Kyuquot Sound, kayaking on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Next year he is traveling with a group to Scotland for a jamborette there. There are many camps each year that allow them to practice the outdoor skills they have accumulated over the years. They have learned that contributing their time and effort towards community is a rewarding experience. There are many challenges to be had through the Scout program and they are as varied as the members who become part of this wonder

ful organization. Scouting has a positive effect on our youth and it is multigenerational. Only good can come to the communities that support a strong Scouting program. None of our youth should be denied this incredible, life changing experience.

I was in the guiding and scouting movement from the age of 6 (I believe) starting with brownies up until Rangers at 15. I moved to Venturers when they allowed girls to join. Partly because my father was a leader, and I loved what they did! I continued on into Rovers where I met my now husband of 20 yrs! This is an incredible program that I support 100%. It has taught me the value of friendship, respect and trust in my fellow man. Good luck in your endeavors...and all the way to the top! Another vote from Brantford :)

I cast my final vote today for NOLB, as well as one for Yannick. Come on fellow scouters, do a good deed and cast a vote for him too! He should not be left behind either. 1966 was the year I receive the perfect gift !!!...The gift of been showed the Path of a Great Youth leader, Robert Stephenson Smith of Baden Powell The Founder of The World Movement of the Scouts Brotherhood. It has been a rewarding experience for my personal life and after to my family Clan too, been a leader taught me the value of the Motto " Be prepared " specially in Guatemala a country, involve in civil war and political revolt, I became aware that the only chance to Help our Country was to involve our Kids in the Scout movement, But poverty and lack of help from some organization was unfortunatly not received, and many of our Kids were unable to participate, have or Wear the proper Uniform, but they have a Big hart for the Scout Movement. 16 Hours left to support NOLB and as you likely voted before reading these comments, please contact 5 other people and ask them to vote, we need less than 500 votes to move from 7th spot to 4th spot, not impossible is it?

I'm a single mother of two, and if it wasn't for this program (NOLB), I wouldn't have been able to put my son in Beavers. He really enjoys scouting and is happy and that makes me happy!

As a Beaver & Cub leader I've seen the positive impacts this program makes. Children who have been turned away - or off - from other programs NEED a movement like Scouting to show them WE CARE! This program will benefit children all across Canada - not just one city or neighbourhood. Thanks John for adding NOLB to this program. Tell your friends and everyone on your contact list to vote - Now!

It's wonderful that an organization can support youth 5 years all the way up to adulthood. And girls, as well as boys, can participate in indoor, outdoor, community and recreational activities which provide lifelong experiences and abilities. Children who are less fortunate financially are invited to participate fully in our group, and grants/awards such as this add to the group's ability to do even more!

It is cowardly not to support our other friends - I want to especially this time to thank you all for your solidarity with Butch. You were a ray in our hearts. It was so nice and comforting to read you and especially you know about us. Thank you to Yannick for allowing these beautiful moments of magic! Lison Gallant acf2610

We've a son involved in Wolf cubs so No child left behind helps. Scouts can simplify to local activities, camping and nature in local urban settings to culturally include whole communities.

This is important. My daughter has grown from her scouting experience, where over the past 8 years she has been given the opportunity to learn, grow and finally take a lead and give back. Scouting is important for boys and girls and I'm glad I signed her up when she was 11 years old and looking for somewhere that let her fit in.

This is a very important to give children opportunities like this. Many families are struggling to make ends meet, and programs like this will help these families still participate in scouting activities and benefit not only the child but the families. Keep up the great campaign!

Both my sons benefited from the "No One Left Behind" program over the years. Scouting is a great asset for youth, and I am especially grateful that they had the opportunity to join, despite the financial challenges I have as a single mother. Thanks Scouts Canada for your support in helping me raise well rounded young men.

Thanks to "No One Left Behind", we have had several youths who have been able to join Scouting, which they would not have been able to do without this program. These youths will have happy souvenirs that they will be able to share with others.

I think that it would be a great loss to scouting if this program is not passed, for lets not forget that it's about children .To have the opertunity get the full experance that scouting has to offer so don't shutt any one out do to financial challenges that there family may be experancing ,

Congratulations to Scouts Canada and to the other winners - they are all worthy winners. There is always a need for more funding for many organizations. Anything to do with Scouts Canada will always be one of my interests. The Scouts Canada program is such a well rounded organization that no matter what a person's situation is - healthy, robust; handicapped, disadvantaged, etc, etc, etc, - Scouts Canada will accomodate you and give you an experience and a chance. Thank you Aviva Community Fund - your interest for doing such a project should be acknowledged. Keep the project going. And for Scouts Canada - lets keep this organization active for many, many years - Baden-Powell would be very proud of how this world wide organization has continued. Scouts/Guides remember BP proudly on February 22nd and not just throughout Scout/Guide week, but all year round. SMcD.
