We are the World

  • Organization: Direct Abundance
  • Location: toronto, ontario
  • Category: Improve Education
  • Cost: Medium ($10,000 – $50,000)

We are developing partnerships with elementary schools in Ontario to create cultural awareness and reduce misconceptions of poverty by building relationships, understanding, and interacting personally with their partnering school in Central America. This program differs from other organizations as our focus is about building relationships between students from diverse backgrounds, which live in different cultures but are of similar age groups.

DirectAbundance encourages and empowers students to contribute to a world outside their immediate surroundings. At an inner city school in Toronto we started our first partnership program called "Global Buddies". Children learned and practiced empathy, compassion, and to recognize that their contributions to society make a difference. It supports growth in each individual so in adulthood, these students will promote global thinking of human rights on a bigger scale.

DirectAbundance trusts through relationships, children will reach out intrinsically and take action against global poverty, fundamentally become better global citizens and values social responsibility as it enriches their lives.

DirectAbundance facilitates this growth through several avenues, the primary focus always being on relationships. DirectAbundance is also supporting personal growth within our young adults by providing community service opportunities. Young adults are given the opportunity to raise funds to send a student their age in Central America to High School and correspond with each other over the course of the schooling. Schools are also given the opportunity to learn about community gardens and may fund-raise to provide the funds to build community gardens. The garden is to offer opportunity to build sustainability to schools that otherwise relies heavily on financial support and donations. The students will learn from this program the added benefit of thinking outside the box

DirectAbundance is Canadian grass roots Not for Profit agency that works toward improving education by building partnerships between schools in Ontario, and schools in impoverished areas in Central America. We are hard-working single mothers volunteering our time to promote this valuable program. In order to enhance the understanding of poverty, cultural diversity and promote hands on character education program in Ontario, and in turn promote strong global citizenship, we need a grant for approximately $20,000. Every dollar would go directly into this program. This would include developing videos, pamphlets, banners, and fundraising materials.
