Green It Up
Turning every flat roof in the GTA into a green roof
Our goal is to transform every flat roof in the GTA into an ecologically-friendly green space. Green It Up roofs sustain vegetation and fresh produce and house solar panels that generate clean energy.
Imagine:
cleaner air for us to breathe
lower energy costs
groceries grown in ‘your own backyard’ – not preserved and not transported
high-rise residents able to garden on their own rooftops
more affordable rent in high-rises
more jobs in every municipality involved
more resources for sustainable energy research and development
Imagine Toronto – the first truly 'green city’ in the world!
All of this at no cost to the property owner and a number of benefits and positive cash flow for property owners, high-rise tenants and municipalities.
The Aviva Community Fund winnings will be used to build a prototype Green It Up roof in Toronto by spring of 2010 and promote its benefits across the GTA, Canada and the world.

This is a fantastic idea,I think this should be manditory for every flattop roof on the planet. Our green space is vanishing at an astonishing rate only to be replaced with concrete and pavement. Our very existance depends on these types of programs. Way to go Dom see you at map night... Ron

We need more green space now than ever before! I'm so happy that you're working hard to promote this, Dom. You have my full support and I can't wait to see the day your idea gets put into action.

The Michael Jackson song, Man in the Mirror is coming to mind with this "Green It Up" creation of Dom's. It's time to make a change. If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself, and make that change.....Doms vision and forward thinking will make this planet a better place for sure. You got my vote 100 times over.

Yes, Yes Yes! This is badly needed especially in Mississuga, where monster distribution warehouses have acres upon acres of wasted rooftop opportunities.

One of the most beautiful things about this part of the world is the sunshine! Even if the weather's too cold to grow greens on rooftops in the winter, the sun shines all through the year - this project will harness that solar power all year every year, year after year. That's power! If they can do that in 3rd world countries, of course we can too! Excellent project Dom!!

What a lovely, refreshing idea! May this project capture the attention of small, medium to large sized corporations and get the whole community involved.
