For over 50 years, Anago’s philosophy has been to establish positive therapeutic relationships with supported individuals. Anago serves female youth in need of protection, male youth in conflict with the law, and individuals with developmental disabilities who may also be medically fragile.
Anago-Parkhill Therapeutic Care Residence
Specifically, the Anago-Parkhill Therapeutic Care Residence (APR) provides residential supports to female youth in need of protection. The youth who reside at APR have highly complex needs, have experienced severe trauma, abuse, and/or have mental health diagnoses. Youth trauma histories include neglect and deprivation, abandonment, parentification, sexual, physical, verbal abuse and sexual exploitation. Through creative collaborations with community partners, APR is able to offer unique individualized programs upon which the youth can build healthy and happy futures. Within the highly structured and nurturing program at APR, youth develop trusting relationships with staff, build on small successes, and discover, over time, they can create and achieve their goals; create healthy independent lifestyles and build positive relationships.

APR wants to build a greenhouse to complement the newly constructed Kitchen at their on-site school. Recently, Home Depot and Community Suppliers came together and renovated the century home kitchen into a dual teaching kitchen. The Team Depot Volunteers and numerous community partners worked side by side and donated the supplies and appliances. The girls will now have on-site health and nutrition classes operated by Thames Valley District School Board that will result in a school credit. The greenhouse will further the goal of developing a healthy lifestyle for the girls and teach them first hand about nutrition and the benefits of growing organic food. It will open their horizons for post secondary education in horticulture as well as culinary arts.In the girls’ short lives they have learned much about anger and destroying. Seeing that the community cares and believes in them enough to build them a kitchen (and hopefully a greenhouse) they have finally experienced the gift of love and self respect. Providing a greenhouse will provide them with the knowledge and meditative benefits of working with soil and creating beautiful healthy nourishment for not only their body but their mind and soul. This is a healing and empowering process in addition to learning. They will discover their culinary prowess, responsibility, accountability, and sustainability. It takes a Community to raise a healthy and happy youth. The ripple effect is endless to our society’s wellbeing. Our youth are our future.
