Dress for Success Toronto promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support, and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

Building a Success Centre will allow Dress for Success Toronto to provide valuable career training and development for our clients in addition to providing career attire. The Success Centre will ensure the long-term employability of our clients, low-income to no-income women completing employment training in the Greater Toronto Area who are ready to make a positive change for themselves and their families. Currently, Dress for Success Toronto outfits 40 to 50 women per week with professional clothing for their interviews and upcoming employment. Our goal is to have every woman also benefit from our Success Centre and therefore increase their employability and chances of securing a long-term career.

The Success Center promotes confidence and professionalism by providing Dress for Success clients with career guidance, technology skills and support in their job searches. The program offers services and resources that are vital to women entering the workforce, such as an Internet-accessible computer lab with cutting-edge job placement software; job search assistance; résumé and cover-letter-writing lessons; and both interview preparation and mock interviews.

Many of Dress for Success Toronto's clients have been negatively affected by the recent job market decline and are seeking new positions; others simply may want to improve and update their portfolios for future employment opportunities.

Career Center staff members work one-on-one with clients. The program also has the support of volunteers who come from varied professional backgrounds including job developers, career specialists and human resources executives.

In order to successfully obtain a job, our clients must learn how best to navigate the job-search process. By teaching our clients to create superior résumés and cover letters, as well as how to hone their interview and technology skills, we can ensure that they feel confident and capable when applying for employment.

With support from our fabulous voters and the Aviva Community Fund, the $5,000 to $10,000 Small Idea will be used to purchase new or used computers, employment materials and fund a part-time employment counselor to oversee the operation of the Success Centre.
