Chemo in our Community

Overview:

We live in a rural community in British Columbia. Our town is quite geographically isolated.  Highways are often closed in both directions regardless of the season due to avalanches, landslides, accidents, etc. Unfortunately, many of our residents have had to battle cancer. In order to receive treatment patients must travel a minimum of six hours to access vital care such as chemotherapy.  Patients who are undergoing cancer treatment are often quite ill and travelling long distances in this condition is extremely hard on them.  The costs involved in travelling or paying for out of town accomodations are high and cause additional stress for the patient and their family.  I would like to have funding to complete the necessary steps in order for trained medical staff to provide cancer related services in our community. Winning this AVIVA community funding would make a huge impact on the quality of life of those battling the disease for whom travel is extremely difficult and sometimes not possible.
