Overview:Tobique Youth center is in the Heart of Tobique First Nation, it being the heart and place to go for many diverse youth to and learn, explore, and vision their true potential.
A board of community members have been working tirelessly to raise money to restore the youth center, and the true potential of our young children.
The center has been standing for well over 20 years, Tobique First Nation has been at a financial standstill for over 4 years with no financial entities to fullfill the needs the Center requires. When it comes to Cultural, Sport, and Leisure activities for the youth, as well as maintaining the building itself.
With the hardships of living in a First Nation Community, our children face many obstacles, when it comes to Drug and Alcohol conflicting homes to having the ability to meet their education standards, as well as low income families to support their children in sport activities.
The youth center provides, a Pool, Fitness Room, Basketball nets, Ball hockey, Cultural Activity area, youth guidence center, enough room for a skate park and Kitchen Area
With all of these provided the building itself is in dire need of repairs, equipment, and quilaified individuals to work with our youth.
At the beginning of our project our first goal was to raise funds to repair the roof, we got a board together that consisted of 12 adult members of our community to work together to come with ideas, fundraisers, and what we can to work on repairing the roof. After a couple months of meetings we encountered many obstacles that were brought forward by the youth and parents themselves.
Essiantial things needed consists of Building repairs, proper equipment for the pool, proper equipment for sports, cultural awareness coordinator, addictions councillor, Youth Council, training for Lifeguards, recreation programs, training for youth workers, skate park, to name a few.
Day in and day out our youth face many challanges, with the risk of drugs and alcohol, and low income families. Our biggest focus is on our youth to make them a place to call their own, a place to go and talk when the required help is needed, a place to get tutoring for school, a place to hang out that is drug and alcohol free as well as a place to learn their culture and learn and show their true identity.
Our building is in the myths of being shut down due to the essentail repairs not being met, and needs in place. So I ask you to please consider the YOUTH of Tobique First Nation in the Aviva Community Fund.
