Organization: Strong Agricultural Society
Location: 14 Albert ST, Sundridge, ON
Idea Created: November 16, 2011
Overview:
The Strong Agricultural Society would like to relocate the Pevensey United Church Building to the Fairgrounds. It would be a wonderful addition with our heritage house as the church was erected in the 1890’s which the same time period as the house is.
The Pevensey Church was built in 1899 used by the settlement community of Pevensey in The Township of Strong. With the addition of the Church along with our existing heritage house and the converted sheep building to display our heritage items we would have a lovely heritage museum that could be opened a few days per week with employment opportunities for summer students and activates.
We can see so many potential opportunities for the Pevensey Church as it is an Integral Part of the Sundridge and Area Heritage. The Significance of the heritage house and the Pevensey Church are definitely going to be a much needed attraction for tourism in our local area as Sundridge has just been by passed with the four-laning Highway. The Pevensey Church would draw people into the community. The Pevensey Church would be used for holding Weddings, Funerals, summer services and evening Hymn sings and many more public functions.
Also with the public school being only walking distance to the Strong Agricultural Fairgrounds the children would be able to learn more about out heritage and want to get involved in their community. The Strong Agricultural Society has received letters of support from The Village of Sundridge and The township of Strong for this project.
