Mae Bachur Animal Shelter
September 24, 2012
Overview:We are a small no kill animal shelter in Whitehorse, Yukon that serves pretty much the whole territory and parts of Northern BC. Last year alone we took in over 800 dogs, cats, and other small animals (double the previous years). A number of these came from various animal control agencies in the territory, thereby saving them from euthanasia due to over-crowding. We have also started doing spay/neuter clinics in various communities to help with over-population. Our shelter is looking into expanding our current location in order to be able to provide temporary shelter for the territory's animals.
Our main goal is to repair the fences in the dog runs, as many of our animals have gotten hurt while digging under the fence. We would also like to upgrade our cat-room and create an outside cat run, so the cats have the option of going outside. Plans also include expanding the kennel room to have more kennels and a larger yard in order to accommodate the increasing amount of animals that we take in.
We are estimating that the fence work, which includes sinking the fence into the ground, and the expansion of the cat room and kennel room will cost around $100K.
