Getting ready for school starts NOW!
School readiness/stimulation for children 24 - 40 months.
This educational program would work with vulnerable, at risk parents and their children age 24 – 40 months. The program would promote and validate the importance of the parent-child relationship, through discussions and direct hands-on stimulation and developmental activities.
Our objectives are to: 1) provide parents with practical knowledge and tools to prepare their child for school 2) sensitize parents to improved nutrition, establish routines, practical methods of toilet training, techniques on going out in public with a toddler, temper tantrums and behavioral issues, discipline techniques, activities to help with early detection of developmental delays 3) provide parents with a network forum to discuss daily parenting and life issues. 4) fill a community void that does not currently address this age group or these topics.5) promote & validate importance of the parent/child relationship during the formative years.
We would expect to see: a) improved parental knowledge on how to help their child's development. b) the child's maturity would benefit from better parental care giving. c) stimulation of the child's fine and gross motor skills. d) the children prepared to attend pre-K or Kindergarten classes. e) early intervention in cases of developmental delays and referral of parents to appropriate specialists f)support families during this process.
