How To Create A Winning Idea
- Create an idea that will have a positive impact in your community.
- Enter it in the Aviva Community Fund competition.
- Get your friends, family and everyone you know to vote for it using email and social networks like Facebook & Twitter.
- Add pictures and videos to help paint a picture for would-be voters.
- Find a broker to support your idea.
Eligibility
We're looking for:
- Action oriented ideas
- With a budget of $150,000 or less
- That can be well underway by December 2012
- In your community (in Canada)
Voting
Anyone who's registered on the Aviva Community Fund website can vote for their favourite ideas. We’re leaving the selection of semi-finalists up to Canadians like you.
You'll have 15 votes per round to use. You can support many ideas or use them all for one idea. That said, you can only use one vote, per idea, per day.
Selecting Winners
Canadians choose the 90 semi-finalists in three rounds of voting. The top 30 semi-finalists move on to the finals. Our panel of judges then uses the following criteria to decide final winners and allocate funds.

- Longevity & Sustainability
- Originality
- Submission Quality
Funding
The $1,000,000 Aviva Community Fund will finance at least one finalist from each category:
- Small (up to $50K)
- Medium ($50K - $100K)
- Large ($100K - $150K)
Once the general competition closes, the special Broker competition provides a second chance for non-winning ideas of all sizes to win funding.
After that, we'll fund additional finalists until all of the money is used up.
Timing
- You can submit your ideas from Sept. 26 at noon until Nov. 30 at noon EST. See competition timing
- You can cast your votes:
- Round 1: from noon October 3th – noon October 19th EST
- Round 2: from noon October 24th – noon November 9th EST
- Round 3: from noon November 14th – noon November 30th EST
- Voting for the Semi-Finals runs from Dec. 5 at noon until Dec. 16 at noon EST.
- The most popular ideas - as voted by Canadians - will compete in the Finals.
- Winners will be announced Jan. 25.

Judges
The Aviva Community Fund has hand picked a panel of judges to evaluate the finalists and choose the winning ideas. Each of our judges brings a different and valuable perspective to the competition and will help ensure the best ideas receive the funding they deserve.
